In the point of 8th km of Hanoi – Hoa Binh road, turn 300m to the right is Trieu Khuc village, Tan Trieu district, Thanh Tri, Hanoi. Trieu Khuc Festival is carried on in three days, from 10 to 12 of first lunar month.
Trieu Khuc Festival
Long time ago, this village is specialized in producing flat palm hat with fringes. It is also famous for embroider and sewing with excellent technique. Otherwise, Khuc village has more than 10 handicraft types and the trading occupation; therefore, the people in Khuc villages have a quite comfortable life. However, the special feature is in the way Khuc people live, shown in the way they create the landscape of the village. The village is small but they pave the way with beautiful bricks which are contributed annually from the marriages. This is the traditional rule which is still kept until now.
The festival is carried on in the mutual house. There are two houses in the village: Sac Temple and Big Temple. The later is the main house with the altar of the founder of the village whom is the national hero in 8th century: Bo Cai King Phung Hung. Passing through many wars and devastations, the houses are still preserved with its ancient architect.
Before the big offering ceremony, there is a procession of royal mantle from Sac to Big house. The statues in procession are carried in two line, the two lines of people going in face-to-face position. When the procession comes to the Big house, the offering begins and being called “bow restoring” offering. All are dissolved in the sense of frankincense and candles and the sound of gong and drum, which made the atmosphere more miraculous. Here, there is also a dance called “girls play drums”. Two girls in the beautiful and colorful dresses, small and sparkling eyes, kerchief dancing and playing the drums in front of their belly in the flippant manner. Visitors from far distance cannot imagine that those are two men in the pretending of women. After the offering is the competitions and games such as: wrestling, firecrackers exploding, dragon dancing.
Finishing the festival, people play the termination offering with the last performance is flag dancing. It ends with the happiness and in the hope of a fruitful and prosperous year ahead.
